A Special Message from Abdu Murray

There’s an old saying in the world of real estate, “Location, location, location.” That’s so true when it comes to restaurants and retail establishments. But for RZIM, with our hectic and eclectic travel, it’s really about locations, locations, locations. With every new location come new challenges and opportunities to serve the Lord. Each place is an adventure of different proportions.
Our Canadian office is embarking on a great adventure that I’m thrilled to tell you about. For over a decade, we’ve been located in the North York area of Greater Toronto. But the Lord has opened a wonderful opportunity for us to relocate to the heart of downtown Toronto.
The new office is located in the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Building at 250 Front Street West. In close proximity are business, cultural, and educational centers that shape much of the thinking in Canada.
Outside the office space, in the lobby of the CBC building, are a number of large screens displaying major news stories of the day as well as other programming. Right in front of those screens is a large sitting area, populated with people taking breaks and catching up on the latest dirt. When I first saw it, I was struck by the opportunity this presented to engage with people in meaningful conversations.
I was reminded of Paul’s encounter with the Greek philosophers at Athens (Acts 17), where in the very center of cultural discussions, he introduced the Creator of the universe to the top thinkers of the day. His words echo as I type this, that God has “determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is not far from each one of us” (Acts 17:26-27).
At RZIM, we continue to seek the Lord’s direction and guidance. Perhaps he is placing us in such an influential place that others may search and feel their way towards God—finding us to be welcoming neighbors, who can introduce them to the God they have been seeking.
Within the CBC building itself, we will have access to the world class Glenn Gould Studio, in which we will be able to host events that will capture the attention of those for whom this is their hub. But the space offers us so much more.
We have been renovating the offices with an eye toward fostering creative thinking—the kind of creativity that brought us campaigns that have reached millions of Canadians, like our “Chances Are” radio campaign or our highly successful Understanding and Answering Summit on Human Rights recently held in Winnipeg. Art displays, reading spaces and presentation capabilities will enhance our connectivity with the community.
The hustle and bustle of the busy downtown is a constant reminder that we are trying to reach out to an increasingly distracted world. Being in that district will keep us focused on finding ever-better ways to meet that need.
We are asking you to faithfully stand with us as you always have. The costs for the renovations, equipment and furnishings will be approximately $125,000 and the total increase to our annual budget will be approximately $150,000. This is not a small undertaking, but with God’s help and the generosity of people who believe in RZIM Canada’s vision to reach this country, we believe it’s possible.
It is my hope that you will seek the Lord’s direction in helping us to meet those costs so that we can continue to build our ministry and expand our Canadian speaking team. As you pray for RZIM Canada, please ask what God would have you do to help us in this strategic move.
I hope you are as excited about our new home as we are. We hope you’ll visit us soon. Your support and friendship sustain us through ever-changing times.
